GE-free Zones in Europe - Examples, Experiences, Strategies

14-15 November 2003
Hotel Springer-Schloessl, Vienna

Aims of the conference

The objectives of the GENET conference "GE-free zones in Europe" are to support the strategic and practical work of civil society groups to foster those agricultural and food processing practices which do not need GE and to strengthen the groups to resist the continuing pressure to adopt GE in agriculture. The conference will complement the GENET project "GE-free zones around the world", publishing the monthly GE-free newsletter and developing an internet-based information platform on GE-free zones.

The conference was planned to reach three aims:

  • to bring together civil society groups from European countries involved in the GE-free movement and working on co-existence strategies
  • to learn from those countries with a strong GE-free movement
  • to develop strategic alliances to secure the existance of GE-free agricultural and food production.

The conference was supported by the Foundation pour une Terre Humaine (Switzerland).
